Red Star Belgrade stung the
Reds as they ran riot over Liverpool FC to win 2-0. Red Star were given an
early lead after star man, Pavkov opened the scoring in the 22nd minute from a
towering header after Daniel Sturridge who was preferred in attack to Roberto
Firmino wasted an early chance.
However, Liverpool did not
heed the warnings of Red Star and continued with their lacklustre display and
they were punished again by Red Star striker “Pavkov” who beat Alisson with a
fierce 25-yard drive to leave Jurgen Klopp stunned in the touchline. Liverpool
tried to make amends but were unlucky to see strikes from Mohammed Salah and Andrew
Robertson clip the frame of the post.
Elsewhere in Group A,
Atletico Madrid made amends for their loss last time around in Germany by
returning to winning ways in the Champions League as they won Dortmund 2-0,
thanks to goals from Saul and Antoine Griezmann.
In Group B, Tottenham kept
their Champions League dreams alive as they ran out 2-1 winners over PSV thanks
to two late goals from Harry Kane.
PSV looked in control early
on as Luuk De Jong made no mistake to put them in front 2 minutes into the
game. Tottenham were eventually sparked into life through star man “Harry Kane”
as he hit 2 goals in the space of 11 minutes to keep their dreams alive at
Wembley.
Also in Group B, Barcelona
secured their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League as they drew
1-1 with Inter Milan. An uneventful match lacking in goals was sparked into
life as Barcelona’s Malcom scored his first goal for the club but Barca’s
celebrations were cut short as Inter replied 4 mins later through Mauro Icardi.
Elsewhere in Group C, Napoli
took the lead at the top of the group thanks to a draw with PSG. PSG looked to
be heading for the win as they took the lead in the 2nd minute of First-half
extra-time but their hard-work was eventually tarnished when a Thiago Silva
error was punished as Napoli’s Lorenzo Isigne, made no mistake from the penalty
spot in the 62nd minute.
